PARKING – There is parking at the Stephen Langton Pub but they ask that you don’t park here if you are also going for a walk. There is another car park slightly up the hill around the corner which has plenty of parking.
THE PUB – The pub allows dogs in the bar area and outside. Bar staff have treats on them and there are water bowls in and outside. At the bar there is a row of photos of all the local dogs – including the resident pooch!
CRAZY DOG NOTES – There is a lane and road at the start and end of the walk and also a road mid way which is difficult to see from the path. They are all quiet roads but please do be careful of these.
WATER – There is water nearly all of the way around the walk as the path loops around a stream.
THE WALK: Starting from the top car park, exit the car park through the path furthest away from the road and head into the woods. Bear slightly left and follow the path through a clearing and then onto a track just into the tree line. Turn left and follow the path straight down the hill until you join the lane at the bottom. The pub is slightly up this road to the left.
Turn right and follow the path along the stream. You will see a bridge on your left hand side which is a nice place for the dogs to drink from and this part of the stream is easy for all dogs to get to. Do not cross the bridge, but instead continue straight on. The path follows the stream, winding through the trees and slightly uphill and then you will see another bridge on the left hand side. Be careful here as shortly after this there is a road running alongside the woods.
Cross over the bridge and walk up the hill, bearing left to head back in the direction you came from – the path does get quite steep here. The path follows the stream on the other side but higher up in the woods and you weave through these until you come to a fork in the path. Take the left hand fork and follow this down the hill to the 1st bridge which you saw when starting the walk. Cross this and turn right to go to the Stephen Langton pub.
After visiting the pub you have two options to return to the car park. You can either retrace your steps by turning left out of the pub, walk to the end of the lane, turn right and walk up the hill and then turn right once at the top. Or you can go past the lake and along the road by turning right out of the pub and left at the end of the lane and then up the steps on the left hand side of the road. Although these roads are quiet it is best to keep your dog on a lead if you decide to go this way.
